Your work/life balance is managing your self care as you take care of responsibilities at work, at home, and in your relationships. It is difficult to achieve, as there are demands that stack up on one side or the other of your life. You may be slammed at work and feel constant pressure, or you might feel that you are neglecting yourself. It is important to manage your energy and your time so that you feel content, engaged, and fulfilled. Take a look at how you can improve your work/life balance. 

  1. Say No

Many people have trouble saying No. It is one of the most important skills you can have, as it allows you to set boundaries. Consider what you need to do each day and set priorities for your schedule. When you say No, you will be able to follow your schedule, and you can save Yes for things that improve your work or your personal life. 

  1. Schedule Breaks

A break can help you increase concentration, reduce stress, and more. You will be able to re-engage after a break rather than being burned out. You only need 20 seconds at times, and you will be able to focus better. It is a good idea to schedule a 15 minute break every 75 to 90 minutes throughout the day. This gives your brain a chance to take in what you have been doing and organize it. 

  1. Don’t Skip Your Lunch Break

If you get a break for lunch, make sure that you use it. You shouldn’t sit at your desk every day, as you can do other things including go for a walk, practice breathing exercises, or chat with colleagues. This gives you a chance to let down so that you are recharged for the afternoon. 

  1. Don’t Be Afraid to State Your Needs

You should be honest and upfront about your needs so that you and your team or employer can work out solutions that are productive. This could be a unique schedule for work, job sharing, and more. 

  1. Make Your Health a Priority

It is very important to stay on top of your physical, emotional, and mental health. Consider habit stacking, which allows you to add positive actions into your day. For example, try daily meditation, schedule exercise, and make social connections. Practice gratitude, and be committed to using any paid time off.
